There is a strong connection between a teacher’s personal health (mental, social, physical) and the success they see in the classroom. Yet, in all the “connected” dialog, we rarely see conversations about personal health. An educator’s success relies on more than their technical abilities, and I think it’s time to look more closely on how whole person plays into the equation.
A relatable jumping off point for this topic is physical health. I have definitely gone through several month stretches of Netflix marathons on my couch. Just the thought of exercising seemed exhausting. Thus, I’m always impressed by people, especially teachers, who seem to relish exercise. For a long time, I’ve been curious about what makes these healthy humans tick. What was pushing them to go for a jog at 4am in a snowstorm? How did they reach that state of exercise Zen?
This week, I will publish a series of interviews with some of the most fit educators you’ll find.
